Was reminded by a brother today of Pro 10:5: He that gathereth in summer [is] a wise son: [but] he that sleepeth in harvest [is] a son that causeth shame. (KJV, Blueletterbible.com) He was speakin in reference of his now booming videography business (one I’d highly recommend) but which his key point was to be faithful with the harvest of business that God had given him. I too would aspire to such faithfulness, not aspiring to financial success but to work hard with the resources God has given me and to provide as I am able for our family’s needs. It has been new and persistant thought that part of God’s identity is that He works. Just as we are like Him in other parts of His image so we are like Him in that we are called to work. So that both with our temporal resources and our eternal treasures we would be faithful. I pray that we would work hard so that the fruit of our lives is left to God’s grace alone. “For whoever abides in me and I in him, He will bear much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (Jesus, Jn 15 NIV).

i’d never seen a peony like this before so i was pretty happy that it came with the house.
i told matt i thought the flower beautiful; he said, “reminds me of someone i know.” he actually says that quite often but it doesn’t really get old. you know?

i finished listening to a message re: missions and sacrifice. matt and i have been thinking more the last few days about some practical aspects, about fleeing comfort, about untempered obedience. when i first considered missions maybe ten plus years ago, the cost i counted had more to do with loss of sanitation and leaving family. now, as we look at where the gospel isn’t, where the need most is, we have to recalculate. warm water is a small sacrifice compared to torture and putting one’s children in danger. it intimidates me, being very much opposed to what the flesh desires, certainly nothing we can do in our own strength. it is also exhilarating, to believe and not doubt, to count the cost, to rejoice in suffering. we know that we’ve ‘a better possession and an abiding one’.
